For selection of the right type of Loadbank these are the two main parameters:

• Load types: Loadbanks have the principle task to test and secure the reliability of the power supply by simulating the load connected to the power supply. For this purpose Loadbanks switch a sequence of load-steps on the connected test supply and measure and/or record the response of the power supply during the simulation. The response or test results are then used to diagnose what needs to be done to service or improve the power supply in order to achieve the maximum reliability of the power supply. The loads may have a different nature, or characteristic. Basically there are three types of loads: Resistive, Reactive and Capacitive or a combination of these three. The choice of load type depends entirely on the application being supplied by the power supply.
• Load control: The control type that switches the load is called the control system and is as important as the load type that needs to be applied. There are 9 types of control systems that can be used with the loadbank as are shown in the Powerpoint presentation.
